Extra Turquino Lavado Cuban Coffee
Cultivated under a canopy of pinus cubensis trees on the slopes of Nipe-Sagua-Baracoa mountains in eastern Cuba by artisanal small-scale farmers, this Extra Turquino Lavado is meticulously hand selected and curated for Mokha 1450’s most rare lines of coffee offerings.
The Nipe-Sagua-Baracoa is a “Global Biodiversity Hot Spot” in that it is one of the most biologically diverse regions on planet earth with a strong tradition of sustainable farming communities that continue to care for and protect the ecology in their surrounding environment. For this reason, as well as others, in the year 2000, UNESCO listed the "Archaeological Landscape of the First Coffee Plantations in the South-East of Cuba" as a World Heritage Site.
In the 1950’s, Cuban coffee was considered one of the world’s most exotic and sought after coffees, and the island was at that time exporting more than 20,000 metric tons of coffee beans that was sold globally at very high prices. At present, Cuban coffee is exceptionally rare on the world stage and cannot be easily obtained no matter the price.
This coffee is a reflection of Mokha 1450’s relentless pursuit of the world’s most extraordinary coffee beans that not only portends excellence, but most importantly, tells the stories of the farmers and their beautiful life sustaining environments that they work so hard to protect.
